A few updates…

Random topic Tuesday updates for my wonderful readers:)  Let’s see, I called this month Januweary because I have been sick and rehabilitating my paralyzed dachshund.  At first, that sounds horrible, and it was.  If you are a dog lover then you know how important these animals are.  I spent a good amount of time crying during the first few days of trying to get used to her new condition mostly because I felt so helpless.  Nothing could really cheer me up, and my sweet daddy even came over and brought me soup my mom made, Greek soup that a friend used to make me, and he bought a penguin shaped cookie container.  Then, HGTV called me and that was very exciting to think about for a while, but it didn’t change what was going on in my life.

We took our little dog to the vet numerous times and I researched every possible scenario.  We decided on crate rest and medicine.  There are several good sites out there for help though, so look here for help.  At first, I did not notice much improvement.  However, gradually she started acting a bit like her old self.  I made her a sling for her back and I learned how to let her know she needed to go to the bathroom.  I just kept repeating “I can do this for her” in my head.  If you are a geek, it was kind of like the way Daenerys Targaryen repeats “if I look back, I am lost” to herself…you get my meaning.  I can’t think of what was.  I can only think of right now.

Each night I do doggie physical therapy.  My husband tries not to laugh as I do this and of course, I might make it a bit humorous as I ask her about her day, etc.  Tonight, my girls squealed with glee as they fed her dinner because it appeared she was getting stronger in one leg.  The vet did say that the dogs learn to adapt and throw their weight in different spots, but this appeared to be more than that.  We can’t say for certain, but all I know is that she can still wag her tail and she seems to have more spunk.

Lastly, I got the e-mail from HGTV and our family was not chosen at this time; however, I believe everything happens for a reason.  I couldn’t leave her now because I am making progress and that’s what is meant to happen.

Whew…

Our weekend of filming is over and now the waiting game begins.  If you have been following my blog, you know that my life is made up of a comedy or errors, but that’s okay because I usually learn something in return.  This weekend, we did 3 different takes on our amateur video.  We were told to act natural…ha ha ha ha.  Sorry, but that proved impossible for us.  Take one slightly grumpy husband, 2 super excited girls, and one stupefied mom and throw them into a panic about a contest they never thought they would hear anything more about.  Oh yeah, and ummm, don’t forget the part where I am still worried about my dog (she isn’t any better, but I promised I wouldn’t bring that up on camera).

During our first (and second) take, my dear friend used her digital camera to help us out.  Unfortunately, it ended up looking like this:

Not so much the fighting part, but the mouths were moving and our voices were somewhat behind.  Sigh.  Also, I forgot to read the fine print that told me what kinds of specifications our movie had to be shot in.  So, after all that, we had to go to plan B.  Our answers were probably better in the Kung Fu voice over looking video as they were fresh and fun; however, we simply could not send that in.  The lesson learned is read the fine print first.  I just said that like two minutes ago.

On Stranger Tides…

A few months ago I entered a contest…then I forgot about it.  My life is hectic and doesn’t always go the way I planned, but then, that’s life.  On Thursday a long distance number called me and left a message.  I was making dinner with my daughter and getting things straight in the kitchen and I never heard my cell phone.  By the time I checked my messages, it was late.  I almost dropped the phone.  Someone from HGTV was calling me.  Seriously.  On Friday I got in touch with her and found out that my essay was a finalist in a contest they had about why I needed a vacation.  I am not joking.  This weekend has been a whirlwind of cleaning the house, trying to find out how fast I could get a passport should I need it, and oh yeah, making a video to send to Pie Town.  I’m not going to be able to go into any specifics because I really don’t know anything.  All I know is I have a chance to go on the adventure of a lifetime and I hope we make it.  Our family is running up against other families, but I think we have a pretty good chance.  One last thing, we get to tell them our favorite Disney or Pixar character…ha.  Tough choice.
